Detroit Brass Society

For almost 30 years, the Detroit Brass Society has been offering great music in a variety of settings. The quintet brings a unique approach to a wide range of musical styles, making them in almost constant demand. Whether an in-school enrichment concert or clinic for music students, a summer park program or a wedding celebration, the ensemble of trumpets, French horn, trombone and tuba seems to fit almost any venue with appropriate music and presentation. The award winning group has been heard throughout the mid-west and, in Michigan, from Calumet in the U.P. to Monroe in the south. In the Detroit are, there is hardly a concert series, town or church that has not been host to the Detroit Brass Society, sometimes on numerous occasions. The quintet was created by five of the Detroit area's finest free lance musicians along the lines of internationally recognized ensembles to perform concert music. As in many cases, the desires and tastes of a range of audiences and sites has broadened the repertoire to include programs of "Americana," Broadway, jazz and novelties that excite and entertain. One of the unique aspects of a performance is the commentary by members of the group. These spontaneous and often humorous remarks not only help the audience to fully appreciate the music but personalize the presentation, allowing everyone to feel that they are a part of the music making.
